First things first. This game rocks! Jack Thompson can eat his words for what he said. This game has the same amount of violence, sex and language of a real school (maybe less language than a British state school). But I digress. Canis Canem Edit (or Bully to you Yanks) starts off as the 15 year old protagonist Jimmy Hopkins gets ditched at the worst school in the state, Bulworth Acadamy as his mum and Step-dad #5 go off on a cruise. After seeing the principal Jimmy immediately gets into a fight and makes friends with the resident sociopath, Gary Smith and 'femme-boy' Petey Kowalski. From there on the story is a twisting turning piece of writing excellence. The story. Good. The difficulty curve. Good. The Characters. Gooooood. Rockstar excels itself with this games characters relying on obvious stereotypes to get the most laughs but the range of personalities is great! From the sporty but dumb Jock who is jealous of the football captain's position as Jock Leader Damon West to the spoilt princess Preppie who doesn't want to marry her cousin Pinky Gauthier to the momma's boy nerd who has a weak bladder Algie Papadopolous all these characters are suitably deranged and fleshed out. Don't do what the Daily Mail readership tell you to. YOU MUST BUY THIS GAME!

Bully Takes Education and Adventure to a whole new level
Margera444527 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
WELCOME TO BULLWORTH! Tired of playing Harry Potter, pick up your controller and play Bully. Bully takes gaming to a whole different level as you play as Jimmy Hopkins, a kid left at Bullworth Academy by his mother and step father. He soon realizes that upon his arrival, he sparked a chain of events that would lead him through the very strange town of Bullworth, New England (FICTIONAL). With an assortment of mini-games, such as classes, arcade games, and side missions that could earn you money or respect; missions that bring you through Bullworth Academy and the town of; and interactions with characters that could make you friends or enemies. You will be able to go through regular classes and get and interim report after every class. If you fail, you can do that assignment over again. Bully also includes many different weapons including, Slingshot, stink bombs, marbles used for tripping people, and itching powder which is fairly self explanatory. The game follows a storyline going from Jimmy's first day to last and the fights, riddles, and problems Jimmy may face. Bully also has a behavior system which includes a trouble meter. The trouble meter is separated into 4 to 5 lines, the first two lines are mild to medium trouble, the other two to three lines are High trouble. If you are in the first few lines, you will get caught by the prefects (hall monitors) or teachers, you will be able to get away. If you are in the higher trouble sections, it is troublesome to get away usually leading to inevitable capture and being taken to the principals office. Different infractions judge your the principal's action taken. You may get detention. Depending on the season, you will either have to Shovel snow or mow the lawn in front of 'Harrington House.' Besides the many different Age and style groups Bullworth has to offer, the adventure and side missions are what really make the game. Whether you want to go to the Billy Cranes travel-ling Circus and ride the rides, or just take a swim in the lake around Bullworth, the adventure, scenery and environment make this game worth every penny, no bull!

Jack Thompson probably was a bully in school....
Bully The Game
The_Light_Triton5 March 2008
Bully Video Game Ps2
Video games come under so much criticism it's ridiculous. Jack Thompson, the 2nd biggest D-bag according to screwattack, claims this game turns children into bullies. unfortunately, jack, the attention-wanting, video game hating old man probably never even plays these games. But I can understand. in the hands of a Copy-cat gamer, this game would be dangerous. in the hands of a casual or hardcore gamer, this game is safe as a seatbelt. The days get worse for Jimmy Hopkins, a 15 year old boy who gets dropped off at bullworth academy, after his mom and his new step-dad go on a year long cruise for their honeymoon. Bullworth is stated as a great educational institution, but as jimmy finds out, it's just like a prison for kids. several different types of kids have their places. the Nerds have the library, the greasers have the garage, the jocks have the gym and football fields, and the rich and preppy kids have the cafeteria, i think. jimmy doesn't really fit in with any of the places, and throughout the game, he has several different missions to go to, and classes to go to. I only got this game last night, and already, it has proved to be very fun. this makes school look like a fun place to learn, but filled with bullies in the hallways. for example, in English, The player plays a game of boggle, and in chemistry, the player plays a rhythm game in which he or she has to hit the buttons on their controller as they scroll across the screen, and so on and so forth. Bottom line, this game might look like a bad influence on anyone, but really, thats what parents are for. they're supposed to watch what their kids play. and if you're a parent, and you think this game is bad for your 11 year old kid, then don't buy it for them. but as soon as they turn whatever age the rating is, then you have no control over it. but even then, watch them play. 10/10

Finally! A game that let's you do things you didn't have the guts to do in high school!
jrwsdr10 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Considering's the source material, 'Bully's depth is quite amazing. Who would think that pegging the jocks with a spud-cannon would be so fun until you did it in this game? Or giving nerds swirleys, shoving them into lockers, tossing marbles onto the hall-monitor's path and almost getting caught because you laughed so hard (it's even funnier when you shoot them in the face with your ever-trusty slingshot and watching them try to chase you after cringing on the ground for a minute or two). I just never thought it was this fun. Honestly, I thought Rockstar was making a big mistake when they developed this game. 'Who's gonna play a game about being a school bully, what's the draw?' But Rockstar somehow did it again. The game actually makes you feel like the Al Capone of Bullworth Academy, when everybody respects you, you can walk through those halls and look them in the eye and say: 'Kiss my shoe?'. In fact, when I had Jimmy's respect meters all up to %100 for everybody, the theme song of 'The Godfather' immediately came to my mind, the game makes you feel like the kingpin. None of the missions are too challenging, so everybody should be comfortable with it (except for parents who can't seem to be able to READ-THE-RATINGS!!!). The sense of humor is obviously dark, as is the plot, but haven't we come to expect that from Rockstar? Solid title, solid and fun game-play, solid everything...even if you would never try this stuff in your real school, c'mon, get REAL.

Josh-Prows1 November 2006
Warning: Spoilers
i played this and rented it the day it came out and i loved it! this is just like grand theft auto but it is only rated T for teen this time. it has a lot of levels too and the graphics are great. you play as a 15 year old boy named Jimmy Hopkins. you play sports such as dodge-ball and boxing or even wrestling. if you complete your classes 5 times then you will pass the class and will not have to go there again AND Don't GO CRAZY BECAUSE YOU Don't GET HOMEWORK!!!! there is 6 chapters in this game but the sixth chapter is endless summer so 5 really...i got this when it was a week old to buy from my local blockbuster for 39.99 and i was so happy i had enough cash. i liked this because it is not so easy that it will get you bored of it. this game has some very good parts but the final boss battle was kinda weak....way too easy. NO I WONT TELL YOU WHO YOU FIGHT BECAUSE I HATE SPOILERS!!! play this game or you WILL regret it forever and ever!!!!

Grand theft auto: the high school years......
knowledge7 February 2007
Unlike in real life, schools in videogames can be tons of fun. School daze, rival schools and many obscure Japanese dating sims use a school setting to create a good gaming experience. Adding to that list is bully (aka canis canem edit), a game that could also be also called grand theft auto: the high school years. The game takes GTAs sandbox gameplay and applies it to school setting, so instead of police there's prefects, instead of gangs there's social cliques , instead of....women of 'ill repute' there's kissable girls and instead of guns you have juvenile weapons such as stink bombs and sling shots. This doesn't mean that the sense of challenge has been toned down, though. The chases are fast and the fighting is pretty raw while the missions that include breaking into lockers and beating up people , will keep you on your toes. The lessons are a nice little bonus also- subjects such as maths, English and chemistry are fun little games that reward you with goodies if you do well in them. Another bonus is the very good voice acting that rockstar games always excel in and the cheeky dialouge you hear during gameplay (' i don't know why they say poor people make the best boxers !'). The occasional poor camera angle aside, canis canem edit (thats 'bully' if your American ) is a good sandbox game that has lots of fun features including the underused yet hugely enjoyable ability to throw marbles on the floor and wait for the consequences......

Taking ROCKSTAR to a whole new level..........
TJThayer342 September 2007
As if the GTA crew had gone back in time, we see Jimmy Hopkins, something of a teenage Tommy Vercetti, thrust into a different school while his mom and new stepfather (which # was he? 15? 16?) shuffle off on a honeymoon cruise. At 15, he's already been labeled a criminal with a history of violence, blatant disrespect for authority, vandalism, and countless other acts of anti-social actions. But Bullworth Academy has some plans for young Hopkins! With a sudden shot of conscience after meeting Peter Kowalski, Jimmy reveals the reasons behind his behavior. And with Gary in the picture, playing the sinister puppeteer, Jimmy Hopkins is in for the challenge of his teenage years. Helping certain staff members with errands, dealing with such academy cliques like Jocks, brainless Preppies, sneaky Nerds, etc., and earning some spending cash with odd jobs and building up your wardrobe, I have to admit I was skeptical of this title at first. But after playing it for 3 hours when I first bought it, I was addicted!! Aside from the rare but annoying funky camera angles here & there, I really give this game a good high rating. Recommended for the GTA fans who want to try just being mischievous for a change instead of blatantly killing in a video game. Learning new fighting moves from a hobo, and grappling during gym class, you are in for a treat if you try it!

A new way of introducing 'gta like' games without the killing
soccerdragon1287 August 2007
Bully is a very funny and interesting game in my view. I personally love crime, grand theft auto type games. Bully is just as fun as grand theft auto except without all the violence and strong language. Here are all the pros and cons PROS -funny and has a great sense of humor -characters are very well developed and introduced -(as i said earlier) just as fun as GTA except without the violence -Missions are easy and fun -Loved the cliques -One of the best original scores I've heard in a modern type video game Cons -graphics could've improved -map shouldve focused more on the school rather then the town

Over-looked Gem of a Game
ElijahCSkuggs1 April 2008
Don't you hate putting off games? You know it'll probably be a blast to play, but maybe you're too busy with other games or maybe you're strapped for cash. Or maybe you're just too hesitant when buying games. Bully, for me, is one game I put off since it first came out. And, after playing it, I kick myself for not buying as soon as it came out. But hey, at least I'm playing and loving the hell out of it now. Bully, if you don't know is made by Rockstar, the fantastic people that gave us the Grand Theft Auto games. Once again they have brought us another open world game to have fun with and explore. This time instead of a gangster type, you're now a hooligan kid at a private school. The idea itself is really interesting, but since it's so different from GTA, you kinda look at it differently. Well, I did anyways. But don't worry the game has tons of fun things to do. Not only are you at a school, you also have the ability to leave the school and venture in the neighboring towns. It's something most gamers don't know about Bully, it's a huge world. With so many areas to explore and so many activities to partake, this game ends up being a very deep and extensive gaming experience. That is, if you ended up falling in love with it like myself. The game has great humor, from the geeks who spend their days at the library, to the incredibly horny and ugly lunchlady. There are laughs at every single corner in Bully. Like I said above on how deep it is, it has Jimmy, the star of Bully, participating in classes (chemistry, English, art etc.), going to the Carnival (to play games, ride rides), go on dates, fight constantly (with some nice striking and ground fighting combos), mow lawns, ride skateboards, smash pumpkins, pull fire-alarms, squeeze girl's bums....the list goes on and on. It's a Rockstar game, what'd ya expect. Bully is one of those games you look at and then pass on for one reason or another. But I'm telling you, Bully is a very fun game. The production is great, the gameplay is great, almost everything about this game is great. You may have small issues with how the game begins, which some say slow (I'd disagree), or the graphics (since we are now onto the new generation), but it's really just a fantastic game that is over-looked. It makes perfect sense why they would try again to sell the game anew and refreshed on the 360 and Wii. If anyone reading this enjoys open-world games ala GTA, Bully is something you need to experience.

This Gem is a masterpiece
baileywiley21 July 2018
I remember when this game first came out, I was in middle school, and it was something that really stirred a lot of people the wrong way. But honest to god, this game is actually showing things such how to stand up for yourself and for those around you. The story depicts a pretty rough and tough school that takes the clique formula and uses it to its maximum and does it so well to where the point the game just flows perfectly. Not to mention this games soundtrack, something that I still throw on for background noise and such. Because like the game, the compositions in this game are preformed masterfully to where you don't ever get tired of it. This game also shows some of the best and diverse characters I've seen in a game, even with R* other games. They don't really compare. And honestly I can flat out say, this game is way too great for it to not have a continuation of the varius plots elements you could go for. It's ripe for the picking with opportunity. All in all this is one of the greatest games that no one really appreciates like they should. It has its fan base. And it's pretty well known. Definitely play if you haven't had the pleasure

Superb
brawnybalboa22 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Put it this way.......its teen rating is accurate to the games content as it contains no more, no less adult content than 'The Simpsons' or even a regular child's school (after all children swear in school no doubt!). It didn't really deserve the stigma surrounding it. Bully is basically a story about a 15 year old boy called Jimmy Hopkins who is abandoned at a private school of some sort based on a New England type of locality. Initially when you play it you are amazed how busy and similar the game is to a real school. People fighting, people running, kissing, talking, hanging around in peer groups. All these children are different age ranges from you children to almost adults, their are girls and boys, whites and coloureds. It is actually a superb sight. This is not all created just for the first scene, this is constant throughout. Basic checklist of things: You have several weapons to use. A slingshot, A super slingshot (which replaces the former) eggs (not really a weapon but an annoyance), a Spudgun, a Bottle rocket launcher, Fire Crackers and Stinkbombs. Volcano 4000's a large firework can be used as a weapon to but can not be 'stored' at all times as it can be picked up and dropped like mêlée weapons. The same applies to Water Balloons which can be filled and used but cannot be 'stored' like other weapons. Melee weapons take the role of anything from Long Rulers, to Sledge Hammers, to Cricket bats and are basically used to pummel opponents with, these can be picked up but not 'stored'. However after a certain amount of hits they do break. Thrown or kicked objects vary immensely, some are meant as weapons (such as dustbin lids, Shields) but some are meant for recreation such as footballs and Frisbees. however they also cannot be 'stored'. You also have a Camera that is stored with the character. You can take photo's of whatever you like in the game, bins, teachers, nerds, bikes anything. You earn the Camera enabling you to attend Photography lessons. In the photography lesson you are prompted when and what to do (e.g take pictures of 3 people for year book), the Yearbook is a book which you can fill by taking pictured of school members. The area in the game is large, the school consists of an observatory, auto-shop, boys dorm, girls dorm, preps dorm, library, gym, swimming pool, actual school building and football field complete with club house. All of which are relatively spread out. This is one section, there is a town called old bull worth about twice the schools size, their is bull worth vale about 2/3 of the size of the school. There is new Coventry about twice the size of the school, and blue skies industrial park twice the size of the school. Basically a whole living breathing school and town.......with a lake, beach, light house and mental asylum to! Also the game alternates through Halloween, Christmas and spring and eventually summer. Jimmy Hopkins main character also has 'good' friends such as Zoe, Pinky, Mandy, Beatrice and Lola he....well looks after at times. There are several groups in the game: Prefects (Navy Shirts) oldest student who act as almost law enforcement. Nerds (Green Sweaters)smart kids Greasers (Think T-Birds from grease) supposable tough Preps (Blue Sweaters) rich kids Jocks (Blue Football shirts) Sporty thick kids Bullies (White Shirts) Well, bullies Townies (Miscellaneous tramp clothing) town kids, usually drop outs. Their are also kids that are not associated with any group in particular, their is another group that Contains Jimmy, Gary and Peter who are once again not associated with any group. Most of which you run errands for, take over, attack or work for, each with their own styles and locations. Prefects are only found in the school building or yard, no where else. Nerds are found at the Bullworth Vale, the Library, in school buildings. Sometimes around front entrance. Greasers are found at the New Coventry, the auto shop, smoking, chilling or combing their hair. Preps are found In Old Bullworth, mainly the boxing club and the prep dorms, sometimes at the carnival. Jocks are found mainly at the sports field, running, shouting fighting, they are only found in the gym as well. Bullies are found all around the school, inside and out beating up little kid jimmy Hopkins, etc. Townies are found in New Coventry but mainly Blue Skies industrial area. Like in GTA there are collectibles, they are G&G cards, Radio Transistors and rubber bands. The game story mode has 80+ missions and there are at least 15 side missions as well, however the game is very enjoyable, if a little easy. The transport available is great! Initially Jimmy Hopkins has no transport but over time acquires a Skate board, various bikes, a Moped and a Go Cart. Most of which can be used in street races. Their is money to be played for which you can use to buy Haircuts, Tattoos, Clothes, bikes, cans of pop, peoples protection or anything you want! Most notable inclusion that reminds you that you are a human in school is the need for sleep (unlike GTA where you character seems to be able to go without sleep for months.) is an in game analogue clock that is really really cool! This game thoroughly deserves recognition as it is superb and seems to capture people in a unique way! This Comment initially totalled over 2000 words so large amounts of info is missing but I hope I have given enough info in this comment. P.S their are so many things I did not mention (arcade games for example!)

It's a future 'Cult game classic'
spiff-1219 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
The inherent humour of the GTA series goes turbo with this uproarious comedic game about bullies across a broad range of social spectrum's. Ever wanted to give a jock a swirly? How about giving a rich private school brat a wedgie in front of his pals? Then this game is for you. Just about everything about this game makes you snicker to outright laugh. Playing a delinquent student, much of the early game is spent in your classes which are mostly a series of mini-games. Passing different phases of your classes give you perks that can be used throughout the game. Out of classes in the beginning...most of your time is spent fighting off the 'Bully' faction. A Hobo ex special forces guy will teach you fighting moves. As you go through the game, you are forced to deal with situations and factions that your nemesis manipulates against you. The targeting is impish. Often 'Locking onto a target' will just bring up a reticule which, all too often, suddenly switches to an unintended target just as you were firing (or throwing). Though I don't think it was intended, this random targeting is like 'Jimmy's (the protagonist) more chaotic side coming out to play. Also you will hit anything in your front. This can be a problem when trying to avoid hurting those that you don't intend to...or, worse, trying to defend. The camera for this game is a beast sometimes. It says 'I don't care if the enemy is over there...you are looking at this wall'. Despite these shortcomings, Rockstar's Bully is well worth the time and money to any VG enthusiast. This game will make you laugh. It is so good that I would put this on a list of 'Cult Game Classics'.

its just a good game, not anything else
sashank_kini-17 June 2007
I brought the ps2 version of Bully after reading the reviews it received. So I brought the game and tried it on the ps2 and played it for two days and now I am going to complete about 1/3rd of the game. From all the things I have played, I can give the review for the game. Pros: 1) A very new idea presented as it does not have shooting and killing, instead you are knocked out. 2) The introduction of the school is really funny and interesting. 3) Easy to play. 4) Thank god, Rockstar has made a game for everyone instead of their trademark, the mature games. 5) You can beat prefects and teachers, which you can't do in real life to hated teachers. 6) The way the different types of students behave is nicely done. Cons: 1) The mini map in the game is thoroughly confusing and so many a times, I get lost. 2) Graphics are below par, especially in the cut scenes. 3) Kissing just has not much of importance. Though its shown that you can kiss the girls, you don't find it so interesting. You kiss and that's over. 4) Though an open ended game. its too big. It should have been limited only till the school. Many a times, you get confused where to go. 5) Classes have some mini games which are terribly simple and stupid. 6) Music is terrible and monotonous. You hear the same, dull music all the time. 7) There's too much put in the game. They should have cut some of the things. 8) Terrible loading time whenever you go from one place to another. Overall, its not the best from Rockstar games. I'm more interested in the gta games, though they are too tough.
